One of the most coveted features in a home is plenty of closet space. You may be fortunate enough to have roomy closets in each bedroom, plus an ensuite closet in your master bedroom. If you are not careful, it is easy for your closet to get all cluttered and impossible to find things you need. Here are some handy hacks to get your closets organized:
Get Rid Of Clutter
Nobody intentionally makes a mess out of their closet. Over time, there may be more junk in your closet than things you wear. Before you can organize your closet, you must get rid of the clutter. While you are sorting, get rid of anything that you have not worn in the past six months. That includes the skinny jeans you hoped to wear again one day, as well as your 8th-grade prom dress. Organize Your Home’s Entranceway When you are a busy parent, organizing your home one room at a time is a great idea. If you feel overwhelmed about organizing, then begin with the living room’s entranceway. In most homes, the living room is where everyone enters a home, and children often drop their backpacks, coats and footwear at the doorway. This entranceway is typically seen from the living room, and it makes the space look chaotic. If your home’s entranceway has a closet, then make it more usable for your children by customizing it with shelving and garment rods that are at a lower level. Alternatively, you can add a freestanding cupboard that makes it easier to hang coats and store backpacks.

Buyers are not interested in the old school walk-in wire closets with a high rack for shirts and a lower rack for skirts and pants. They do not want to arrange their shoes on the closet floor and stuff their sweaters on the top shelf. CNBC reports that millennials are among the top groups of people increasing the money spent on home remodeling projects. While the oldest homeowners are still the largest spending group, millenials are quickly coming in second with a seven percent increase in average money spent to remodel a home for an average of more than $26,000 a year. Surprisingly, a first-time buyer often spends nearly $34,000 renovating a residential property.
Where is the money coming from for new construction and rehab projects? Typically property owners use the equity in the home and other items like bonds, stocks, and vehicles to access the necessary money to complete home projects. Millennials are not going this route with most of them using credit cards. Houzz conducted a survey of more than 100,000 participants finding that spending since 2004 has gradually increased year after year. CNBC says that this is a signal to the rest of the country that the housing market has rebounded nicely since the recession, and they claim that the current spending rates are comparable to those of pre-recession numbers.
