Feng Shui, which literally translates to "wind and water" gives you a sense of harmony in your home. It makes every room calmer and more tranquil. To get started, keep reading for some helpful tips.

First, clear out the clutter. If you have items that you don't love or haven't used in a significant amount of time, donate them or throw them out. Clearing clutter gets the positive energy flowing. Clutter in your home also clutters the thoughts in your head.

Next, let the natural light in. Open up curtains and blinds, and also the front door. By clearing entryways, positive energy can freely flow through your home.

One of the most important principles of Feng Shui is balance. Feng Shui has five elements - wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. The color correspondence is as follows:

  • Wood - Green or brown
  • Water - Black
  • Fire - Red
  • Earth - Yellow, brown, or tan
  • Metal - White

Have something in every room representing each of the five elements. Perhaps you can decorate with each of the five colors. Try some blue pillows or red blankets. Or, you can use items. A wood bowl with white flower petals would work wonderfully.

Promote Positive Energy In Your Closet

Take a look at your closet. Is everything shoved in there, with no rhyme or reason? If so, you are blocking the positive energy that you need. The first thing you want to do is treat your closet to a fresh coat of white paint. This gets the energy flowing. Next, get the lighting just right. Soft lighting is perfect for Feng Shui. Get some closet organizers for all of your clothes, shoes, purses, and accessories, and arrange items according to color. Finally, hang some healing crystals.

Allow Nature Into Your Home

Nature is peaceful, and we want to bring that peace into our homes. Decorate with plenty of wood, or even create a stone arrangement. Keep windows slightly open to allow fresh air in. Make sure all items are peaceful, calm, and serene. Perhaps you can hang a picture of beautiful landscaping.

Make Your Bedroom As Peaceful As Possible

Start by clearing everything out from under the bed. Promote relaxation with soft colors, such as blues and purples. Place your bed as far away from the door as possible, while still being able to look at the doorway. By placing the bed in the corner, diagonally from the door, you are promoting rest. Most importantly, don't have your feet pointing out the door. This is known as the "death position" since, in ancient Chinese culture, dead people were carried out of rooms feet first.

Feng Shui Your Mirrors

When choosing mirrors, choose mirrors where you can see your entire body from head to toe. Tiny mirrors that only show the body from the shoulder up, for example, will cause you to feel "broken". Hang a full-size mirror near the main entryway to your home. This will allow you a look at yourself every time you enter and exit. The most important rule to remember is this - don't place the mirror closer than 5 feet from the entry. This will cause positive energy to bounce back out the door!

By taking these important first steps in introducing positive energy into your home, you will begin to feel more peaceful and at harmony with yourself. As time goes on, take more steps to Feng Shui the entire living space!
